Program Dates
The IHRE program is offered in both the spring and fall semesters. Students take classes at the University of the Witwatersrand in accordance with their academic calendar.
The spring semester program typically takes place from late January through the end of June. The fall semester program typically takes place from mid-July through late November.
Prior to the start of classes, North American students attend a required pre-departure workshop in the U.S., typically scheduled around two weeks in advance of the start of classes at Wits. IHRE students also participate in a mandatory on-site program orientation in Johannesburg and a Community Human Rights Workshop the week before classes begin.
