All IHRE students will be directly enrolled at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, and as such will enjoy the services and amenities provided to the Wits student body. Wits has many of the same services provided at a large, state institution in the United States, including:

• A comprehensive library system
• A student union, called the Matrix, complete with a cafeteria, eateries, ATM machines, printing and photocopying services, and a convenience store
• Recreational sports facilities and select intramural sports clubs
• Scheduled shuttle buses to shopping centers
• Wits Counseling & Careers Unit
• Wits Disabilities Center
• Campus Health and Wellness Centre
• The Wits Writing Centre

A Note on Climate and Seasons

Don't forget that the IHRE program will begin at the apex of winter in Johannesburg! Even though Joburg is typically dry and moderate during winter, buildings are seldom heated. Thus, you will need to dress in layers, and bring a warm fleece or light winter coat that you are prepared to wear both outdoors and indoors. Joburg springs are often wet, so a rain jacket and waterproof shoes are also essential. Finally, by the time you leave you will need summer clothes!  The South African Weather Service has an average temperature and rainfall chart for Johannesburg.
